iLok QUICKSTART GUIDE

GET STARTED WITH iLok.

First, we’ll explain what an iLok is and how to set up an account. Most users only need one iLok account, so do not create another unless you need multiple accounts for separate systems.
Also you can visit: https://www.ilok.com/#!license-manager

WHAT IS AN iLok?

An iLok is a USB dongle that stores software licenses. A software license is like a key that unlocks software products like Pro Tools, iZotope RX or Transformizer. Software that is protected by iLok will not open until a license is found on either a physical iLok USB dongle, or, for BASIC, on your computer’s hard drive.
Visit iLok’s Licensing System page for more information.

CREATE AN ACCOUNT WITH iLok.

First you need to create your iLok account. You will need an iLok account, In order to log into the iLok License Manager app and access your licenses . Take a note of your username, email address, and password when making your account. Remember that the username and password are case sensitive. They can be reset on this page if you forget them. Below are 3 steps for you to follow, for creating your free iLok account:

1.Visit iLok’s registration page.
2.Complete the registration form and click Create Account.
3. Locate the iLok Account Activation email and click on the verification link inside.

THE iLok LICENSE MANAGER SOFTWARE.

The iLok License Manager app is what you use to manage your licenses and register new iLok Activation Codes. Some software manufacturers provide you with an iLok Activation Code and others will deposit the license to your iLok account after you have registered and acquired a license on their respective website. Once you have the license, you will still need to transfer it to a valid iLok, computer, or iLok Cloud session.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE iLok LICENSE MANAGER.

You need the iLok License Manager app to access your licenses. Installing the iLok License Manager on a PC or Mac is pretty simple. Download it from iLok.com and then run the installer file. Just make sure to decompress the .zip file, described in step 2. Once downloaded, go to your Downloads folder, decompress the .zip file and launch the installer:
Go to the iLok License Manager page and download the version of ILM to match your operating system.

For P.C.: Right-click the .zip file, select Extract all and click Extract. Double-click the new .exe installerfile and follow the on screen instructions.
For Mac: Double-click the .zip file to decompress it. Double-click the new .pkg file and follow the on-screen instructions.

REGISTER USB iLok DONGLE

If your software requires an iLok USB dongle (aka iLok), you register it to your account via the iLok License Manager. Just launch the app, sign in, and then connect your iLok. Remember that iLok USB dongles must be connected and have the correct license loaded in order to use a given software title.

HOW TO ACTIVATE LICENSES ON YOUR iLok ACCOUNT.

In order to activate a license on the physical iLok, please follow the steps provided below:

– Connect your iLok key to one of the USB ports of your computer.
– Open the iLok License Manager (ILM) application downloaded from the iLok website.
– Sign in using your iLok account credentials.
– Once signed in click the Available tab and locate the license you wish to activate.
There are two ways to activate a license:
– Right-click the license then select activate from which during the process you will need to select the activation location which is your iLok key.
– Or you can also simply drag-and-drop the license from the Available tab to your iLok key.
The message Successful Activation will appear if there are no errors during the process. The selected license is now activated on the physical iLok.

HOW DO I MOVE AN ACTIVATION FROM MY iLok CLOUD?

If you have an activation you wish to move to iLok USB hardware or a computer, you must make sure the iLok Cloud Session is closed.
In the iLok License Manager (4.0 or greater), go to FILE -> Close Cloud Session
If the iLok Cloud session is open on another computer than the one you are at, simply Open Cloud Session first, then Close Cloud Session.

WHY CAN’T I MOVE MY LICENSE FROM iLok CLOUD TO MY iLok?

If a Cloud Session is currently open, you will need to Close Cloud Session then activate the licenses to e.g. a physical iLok USB. A new Cloud Session can then be opened to allocate the remaining available licenses, if you have others that are cloud licensed.

Please do go to File > Close Cloud Session to make the license available to activate to your iLok again.

Make sure to activate to your ilok before running your DAW again.

HOW DO I CLOSE AN iLok CLOUD SESSION?

In the iLok License Manager (4.0 or greater), go to FILE -> Close Cloud Session
In most cases, there is no need to close a Cloud Session. Some users will want to close their Cloud Sessions to be able to move an activation to a physical device or computer.
Not all computer systems will have a reliable Internet connection, so moving the activation to the iLok USB hardware is an option for those users.
Opening an iLok Cloud session, will move the session to the computer you are at and will close the session in the old location.
When you close the iLok Cloud session, it will remain closed.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A TRIAL LICENSE?

For PRO there’s a TRY button on the products page, that will lead you through to getting a trial license deposited on your iLok account. This option is active most of the time and we have periods where it is suspended. For BASIC there’s no trial version. You register for 1 month and subscribe, either for a very low month to month rate of $9.95 or subscribe with an annual commitment as low as $4.95 pr. month. Both versions require an iLok account for depositing of a license. BASIC can use both your host computer or an iLok key. PRO uses the license on an iLok key.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET STARTED USING TRANSFORMIZER ?

A good way is taking a sound you are using in production and know well. Let this be the Master sound and try out different options in the Child section parameters. You’ll quickly get the hang of it. Remember to consult the keyboard short cut in the back of the manual. Also we’ve made quickstarts with test sounds for both BASIC and PRO. You can obtain them in the SUPPORT page, in thge Documentation section and see the additional tutorials in the VIDEO/AUDIO menu.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES  BETWEEN PRO AND BASIC?

In Transformizer PRO to mention a few, you have a Master and 3 Child section where BASIC has a Master and a Child sections, access to all parameters and you can automate most of them, there is single section view (by pressing the number buttons 1,2,3 or 4 which will correspond to Master, Child A, Child B and Child C and separate outputs for each section.

Transformizer BASIC is a stereo out version and has got limited direct access to parameters and is more based on the quite elaborate Randomizer function. This in order to present the user of BASIC with suggestions on the basis of which you can create your unique sonic material. It has 1 Child section and is a great companion for f.ex. loop based music production.

HOW IS TRANSFORMIZER DIFFERENT FROM A TYPICAL VOCODER?

It really can not be compared. Transformizer fundamentally works differently. Transformizer have several thousands small filters. A vocoder typically only have 11- 30 bands, because they themselves, in software, are implemented like the old classic analogue vocoders, i.e.. as parallel filter banks with a bank for the analysis and one for the synthesis respectively, where each filter in the analysis, controls the gain of a corresponding in the synthesis. Thus, the formant frequencies also stick to the centre frequencies of the few filters, giving the typical robot-like vocoder sound. The several thousand small filters in Transformizer, have this part tightly woven together with the pitch shifting part, therefore it really can not be compared.

WHY CAN’T I SEE TRZ IN MY PLUG INS LIST (Pro Tools)?

Do remember that Transformizer is a stereo instrument and should be inserted on a stereo instrument track. So if you’ve installed Transformizer and are having trouble finding it in your instrument plug in list, it might be because you’ve created a mono track.

WHAT IS TRANSFORMIZER PRO?

Transformizer is an innovative sound manipulation software plugin, which makes sounds “intelligently” adapt to each other, by forcing Child section sounds to intimately follow the flow and structure of a Master section sound – thus providing users with unique, colourful and creative options in seconds instead of hours.

WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL USE CASES OF TRANSFORMIZER ?

The audio manipulation features inside Transformizer, makes it invaluable to anyone looking to massively boost their creative output. Be in doing sound design for movies, creating new ispiring percussive elements in loop based music or abstract sound scapes for film scoring.

Transformizer is tailored for sound designers, musicians, music producers, game VR and AR designers, artists or DJs. TRANSFORMIZER® is for anyone looking to boost their sonic creative output, regardless of genre and medium.

HOW MANY PLATFORMS DOES TRANSFORMIZER SUPPORT ?

Mac and Win AAX, AU and VST.

IF TRANSFORMZER IS MISSING OR YOU CAN’T FIND OR INSERT IT IN YOUR DAW.

First steps

1. Install the latest version of the iLok Licence Manager
2. Sign into the iLok Licence Manager, if you are using iLok key, connect your iLok, and make sure that it’s shown in the left-hand list
3. Make sure that your licence has been activated to your iLok
4. Right-click your iLok and select Synchronise. This will resolve any discrepancies between your account and the iLok.
5. Open your DAW and check whether the Transformizer plug-in is available to use

If your plug-in still doesn’t show up

If your plug-in still doesn’t show up, it might have been blacklisted, or permanently ignored by your DAW. This saves your DAW from attempting to load a plug-in that doesn’t work every time you launch it.
If your licence is not activated to a valid location, or your iLok is disconnected, the DAW will treat the plug-in as if it doesn’t work.
Fixing this needs to be done differently for each DAW. Below are steps to follow for some major DAWs.

WHAT’S THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND TRANSFORMIZER?

The technology behind Transformizer, is based on advanced analyses of the pitch, amplitude, duration and timbre of a ‘Master section sound’ and hereafter applying these parameters to control additional sound in a Child section or sections . Through creative blending of sources and intuitively tweaking of parameters new sounds will be brought to life in seconds.

WHAT TYPE OF SOURCE MATERIAL WORKS BEST WITH TRANSFORMIZER?

You’re the master. Transformizer will yield crazy results no matter what material you use. In Basic you can lock a beat in the Master section to host and link the sound in the Child section to generate some wild percussive elements. Or in Pro enhance the sound of your favourite machine gun or race car by dumping it in the master section and adding an Industrial snow blower, a chruch organ chord or piston airplane engine in the child sections.

HOW IS THE QUALITY OF THE PROCESSED AUDIO PRO?

Pristine. We’ve gone to great lenghts to maintain as good an audio quality as possible. One of the things our many top industry users have praised.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I SAVE USING TRANSFORMIZER PRO?

Transformizer dramatically reduces editing time in various post production processes and optimizes your creative flow, thus providing users with unique, colourful and creative options in seconds instead of hours. Also it will enable you to try out more options in the same time available than before.

WHAT’S THE ROADMAP IN TERMS OF FUTURE UPDATES FOR THE PLUG IN PRO?

For us to know and you to find out. For sure we’ve got some intriguing versions in mind.
